Activate Smart Boost
This guide outlines how to use the Smart Boost feature within the Covatic platform to optimise the balance between audience relevance and campaign reach.
Feature Overview
Smart Boost is a powerful slider-based tool located within the Advanced Audience Builder. It allows you to dynamically adjust your audience size by prioritising either the Relevance of the traits you have selected or the total Reach of the segment. Please note that Smart Boost can only be applied to standard traits.
How it Works
Boost Relevance: Tightens the audience criteria to ensure users highly index against your selected traits. This typically results in a smaller, more “pure” audience but may lower your total available inventory.
Boost Reach: Broadens the criteria using Covatic’s modelling to find users who are contextually similar to your target. This increases your potential impressions while maintaining the core characteristics of your segment.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Enable the Advanced Builder
Smart Boost is an advanced optimisation tool and is only available in the Advanced workflow.
- In Step 2 of the audience building process (Build your audience), ensure the Advanced toggle is selected at the top of the screen.
2. Locate the Smart Boost Slider
Once in Advanced mode, scroll down below the Platforms and Locations settings.
- You will find the Smart Boost section directly above the Trait selection buttons.
3. Adjust the Slider
The slider has three primary states. You can click and drag the indicator to see how your Reach and Inventory metrics (on the right) change in real-time:
- Left (Boost Relevance): Use this if your priority is high-precision targeting.
- Centre (Balanced): The default setting that maintains a standard equilibrium between accuracy and scale.
- Right (Boost Reach): Use this if your reach is too low or if you need to scale your campaign across a larger volume of users.
4. Review the Impact on Metrics
As you move the slider, keep an eye on the Group Reach chart:
- Relevance Check: When boosting relevance, you will notice the percentage of high-indexing groups (e.g., “Executive Wealth”) may increase, while the total reach number drops.
- Scale Check: When boosting reach, the total reach number will climb significantly, but you may see a more diverse spread of user groups in the charts.
5. Finalise and Save
Once you have found the “sweet spot” for your campaign:
- Continue adding your Standard, Custom, or Event Traits.
- Click Next: Summary and then Save and Publish.
Success Verification
Your Smart Boost settings are saved as part of your audience logic.
- Audience Details: Go to your Audiences list and click on the segment name.
- Logic Review: On the details page, you will see the Smart Boost slider position preserved, showing exactly how the audience was weighted during creation.
Pro-Tip: If the platform displays a “Low reach audience” warning, move the Smart Boost slider toward Boost Reach before removing any of your desired traits. This often fixes the inventory issue without sacrificing your targeting strategy.
